Vladimir Putin should stop launching strikes in Ukraine and conclude a peace agreement with Kyiv faster, US President Donald Trump said. “I want him to stop shooting, sit down at the negotiating table and sign an agreement,” Trump said while speaking to reporters. He said he was “very disappointed” by Russia’s missile strike on Kyiv on April 24, which killed 12 people and injured 87 others. At the same time, Trump said he could not say for sure whether the Russian “president” was serious about ending the war. “We’ll see what happens over the next few days. We have the basis for an agreement. I want him to sign it, get it over with and just go back to normal,” the White House head emphasized.
Trump also spoke about his 15-minute meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which took place on April 26 at the Vatican during the funeral of Pope Francis. He said the Ukrainian leader has become “calmer” and is now more interested in reaching a peace agreement. Asked if Zelenskyy would be willing to give up Crimea to do so, Trump said: “I think so, yes.” Before that, in an interview with Time magazine, the US President said that the peninsula will remain with Russia as part of the agreement to end the war, and Zelenskyy knows it.
