Court awards 15 years in prison to Yanukovych and 10 years to his security chief

According to the materials of the State Bureau of Investigation, the Podil district Court of Kyiv found former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment for 15 years and the former deputy head of the State Protection Department of Ukraine – head of the Presidential Security Service of Ukraine – for 10 years.

The SBI investigation found that on February 23, 2014, around 01:30, Viktor Yanukovych, acting together with his guards and other persons, illegally transported at least 20 people across the state border of Ukraine to the Russian Federation outside the checkpoint. The transfer took place from the outskirts of the village of Urzuf in the Mangush district of Donetsk region by three helicopters of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

In addition, it was established that on February 24, 2014. Yanukovych, being on the territory of one of the military units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the Gagarin district of Sevastopol, decided to finally leave Ukraine and induced the head of his guard Konstantin Kobzar to defect.

The serviceman evaded the service and left the territory of Ukraine by sea vessel together with the former president and several other persons and never returned to his place of service.
