After meeting with Zelensky, Trump questioned Putin’s desire to end the war and threatened Moscow with sanctions

US President Donald Trump, after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Vatican, commented on the strikes that Russia has launched against Ukrainian peaceful cities and towns over the past few days. Trump noted that Vladimir Putin had no reason for such attacks. In this regard, he expressed doubts about the sincerity of Putin’s desire to end the war and threatened to impose new sanctions on Moscow. “It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to end the war, but is just playing along with me and should be dealt with in a different way – with ‘bankable’ or ‘secondary’ sanctions,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

In addition, the US President criticized the New York Times and The Times for their publications about him and the situation in Ukraine. In particular, he condemned The Times article, which, according to Trump, argued that “Ukraine must take back its [occupied] territories, including Crimea, to stop the slaughter, the worst since World War II.” That “Russia stole Crimea from Ukraine,” Trump blamed Barack Obama. The incumbent president held him, as well as Joe Biden, responsible for starting the war in Ukraine, emphasizing that he is now “trying to bring order to a mess.”
