Trump says “many elements” of peace plan agreed with Russia before talking to Putin

The United States has agreed with Russia on “many elements” of a plan to end the war in Ukraine, but “many things remain to be discussed,” US President Donald Trump said. He recalled that on March 18, he will have a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Trump, according to him, is looking forward to. The talks will focus on the peaceful resolution of the military conflict, particularly the ceasefire. “Thousands of young soldiers and others are dying. Every week brings 2,500 deaths of soldiers on both sides. This must stop immediately,” wrote the head of the White House in the social network Truth Social.

Before that, Trump expressed confidence that Russia would go for a temporary truce. “We’re coming to a very critical stage [of negotiations] and we want to fully resolve the Russia-Ukraine issue. I think Ukraine wants that, I know – they want that. All the players want that,” the American president said. According to him, Washington needs to achieve a peace agreement. “That’s all I’m thinking about right now,” Trump added. At the same time, the US may make serious concessions to Russia as part of a peace settlement. According to Semafor’s sources, the Trump administration is considering formally recognizing Crimea as part of Russia in the event of a peace deal. Washington may also apply to the UN with a proposal to recognize the peninsula as Russian at the international level.
