U.S. halts funding to restore Ukraine’s energy system

The US State Department has decided to terminate an initiative of the Agency for International Development (USAID) aimed at restoring Ukraine’s power grid after massive attacks by the Russian army. The program, in which Washington has invested hundreds of millions of dollars, was phased out this week, NBC News reported, citing two USAID officials working in the agency’s mission in Ukraine.

“This is a serious blow to the Donald Trump administration’s ability to negotiate a ceasefire. Moreover, it could be a signal to Russia that Washington doesn’t care about Ukraine or the investments made earlier,” one of the USAID employees said.
