US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has demanded an apology from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the scandal at the White House. He said the open undermining of peace efforts by Zelenskyy was extremely disappointing. “And I think he should apologize for wasting our time in a meeting that ended this way”, Rubio told CNN.
There was no reason for Zelenskyy to speak in such a confrontational manner, Rubio believes, “Things got out of hand.” The secretary of state said the U.S. government wants to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and “that’s only possible if we can get Russia to the negotiating table.”
However, Rubio said, if one does as Zelenskyy did and attacks Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, he will not be able to be brought to the negotiating table.
After the scandal, Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave an interview to Fox News Channel in which he made it clear that he had no intention of apologizing to President Trump. When asked about it, he said, “No. I think we should be very open and very honest, and I’m not sure we did anything wrong.”
