Canada has added to the sanctions list of individuals and companies it considers involved in supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. On Monday, it added 33 more individuals and 44 firms.
They include TV host Vladimir Pozner, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev and his wife Anna Tsivileva, Russia’s deputy defense minister and a niece of Vladimir Putin. The sanctions also include the Kremlin-linked ANO Dialog, which spreads propaganda fakes about the war in Ukraine, and its director Vladimir Tabak, the Internet Development Institute, which censors Russians’ political statements on social networks, the Chechen Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation, the Artek international children’s center, the Russian Copper Company, the Russian Air and Space Forces and the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces.
In addition to Russian companies, the sanctions list includes companies from Iran, China and Cyprus, which Canada considers to be linked to Russia.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the sanctions lists should also include 109 tankers of the “shadow fleet,” which bypass international sanctions by transporting Russian oil products to foreign recipients.
