A couple from Novosibirsk have named their firstborn son Trump. The child’s father Vladimir told Sib.fm that he and his wife chose this name not so much against the backdrop of events related to the return of Donald Trump to the chair of the US president, but because of its unusualness. “It’s not necessarily a political reference. It has many etymologies. In a few years already, the name will be rare. We want the child to have an unusual name,” he said.
Now the family lives near Minsk. The couple moved to Belarus two years ago. Vladimir works remotely as a programmer, and his wife is a florist. So far, the parents have not yet been issued a birth certificate for the child, as the mother and baby continue to stay in the maternity hospital. In July 2023, the full namesake of Vladimir Putin was born in St. Petersburg, as reported by the city’s health committee. The boy’s mother said the child’s name was chosen in honor of his grandfather and expressed hope that her son would grow up to be a “leader and winner in life.”
