The US President Donald Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin on the phone, discussing with him the end of the war in Ukraine. This he himself told The New York Post, without specifying when it happened and who was the initiator of the call. According to Trump, Putin “really cares” about the killings on the battlefield: he “wants people to stop dying.” “All these deaths. Young, beautiful people. They are like your own children, there are two million of them – and for no reason,” the politician said.
Trump noted that he has a concrete plan to end this war: “I hope it’s quick. People are dying every day. This war is so terrible for Ukraine. I want to put an end to this damn thing.” The American leader added that he has a “good relationship” with Putin and this war “would never have happened” if he had stayed in the White House in 2020. As for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump said U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance will meet with him at the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 14–16. The politician said he wants a $500 million deal with Kyiv on access to rare earth minerals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in any potential peace settlement.
