AFU commander-in-chief says Ukraine is developing an air defense system capable of shooting down Oreshnik

Ukraine is developing its own air and missile defense system that will be able to intercept Russian ballistic missiles Oreshnik, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Syrskyy said.

According to the commander-in-chief, the Oreshnik ballistic missile promoted by Vladimir Putin is a threat to Ukraine and now only a few air defense systems can shoot it down. He said the country does not yet have such systems, “but we must do everything to make them appear.”

“This encourages us to create our own air defense system, which would be not just an air defense system, but an anti-missile system. It encourages us to actively pursue and negotiate with allies to get such a system. And, of course, it should encourage us to create a modern missile system, which could be a deterrent against the use of such weapons by the Russians,” Syrskyy said in an interview with TSN.
