Zelenskyy asked Western allies to deploy troops to Ukraine

The deployment of a foreign contingent in Ukraine would be “one of the best tools” to force Russia to make peace, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the 25th meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine at the Ramstein base in Germany.

“Let’s be more practical to make this possible. And we have heard signals from the UK – in support of this. We have to be bold, and we have to offer really strong tools,” he said, addressing the allies.

Zelenskyy recalled France’s proposal to deploy partner troops in Ukraine, emphasizing that this measure would bring peace closer. Earlier, in November 2024, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, during a visit to London, urged the allies “not to set red lines” in the issue of supporting Ukraine and did not rule out the option of sending French troops there. French President Emmanuel Macron first voiced the idea of deploying Western troops to Ukraine in February last year.
