Russia has withdrawn its naval fleet (Navy) ships from the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, the Ukrainian Navy said. As of 06:00 Thursday, there were no such vessels in these water areas. At the same time, seven Russian warships, two of which carry Kalibr cruise missiles, continue to operate in the Mediterranean Sea.
On January 8, the speaker of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, said that Russia had finally given up repairing its fleet in annexed Crimea due to the threat of losses as a result of attacks. He recalled that the AFU destroyed the small missile ship (MRC) Cyclone in Sevastopol Bay, launched two strikes on the submarine Rostov-on-Don and another on the MRC Askold in Kerch. “These examples suggest to the Russians that it is impossible in principle to use Crimea for ship repair,” Pletenchuk said.
According to the monitoring telegram channel Crimean Wind, Russia is still trying to hide the remnants of the fleet on the peninsula from AFU strikes. Thus, several warships were spotted at the Vtorchermet wharf in Inkerman, where decommissioned ships are usually parked and cut for metal. Some time ago, a small anti-submarine ship of Project 1124M Albatros-M and a minesweeper were moored there.
