Water supply problems have started in Transnistria after the halt of Russian gas supplies and the ensuing energy crisis, local media reported.
Due to the lack of energy to maintain sufficient pressure in the pipes “in connection with the fan power outage,” water was cut off in several villages in the Slobozia district of the unrecognized republic on January 5. People are asked to stock up on water. Before that, water and electricity were cut off in several districts of Tiraspol.
At a January 6 meeting of the operative staff on energy issues, they said that Transnistria’s energy system, created in the Soviet period, could not cope with the loads and asked residents to selectively use machinery and electrical equipment. “At the moment, 122 settlements are completely disconnected from gas supply. Without gas 51,507 subscribers in rural areas, more than 20 thousand – private households in cities, 1.8 thousand legal entities and entrepreneurs”, – said the head of staff Aleksandr Rozenberg.
