Putin threatened Ukraine with new large-scale strikes on civilian infrastructure

Ukraine will face large-scale revenge for the strikes on Kazan, Vladimir Putin said. “Whoever and however much he tries to destroy something in our country, he will face many times more destruction at home for it and will regret yet what he is trying to do in our country,” he said during a conversation with the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked Kazan using drones on Saturday, December 21. Authorities of the republic reported that eight arrivals were recorded in the city, six of them came to a residential area. As a result, there was a fire in houses in the Sovetsky, Kirovsky and Privolzhsky districts. Drones of the Lyut type crashed into the elite residential complexes Azure Skies and Manhattan. In the first LCD apartments on the 31st and 29th floors were damaged, the second had a damaged spire. One drone fell on the attic of an apartment building on Klara Tsetkin Street, another one – on the roadway on Krasnaya Position.

In addition, a drone struck an unnamed industrial facility. Residents heard explosions at the local gunpowder factory, located two kilometers from the affected house on Klara Tsetkin Street, but the authorities assured that these were “routine tests.” It was claimed that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the attack. At the same time, Shot wrote that three people received cuts from broken glass. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Ukraine’s attack on Kazan revenge for the BRICS summit, which was held in the city on October 22-24 and allegedly “demonstrated the power and influence of this association in the international arena”.
