Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 83,338 Russian servicemen have been killed, according to a summary by the BBC Russian Service and Mediazona, which are conducting a roll-count based on open data. The highest losses were recorded in Bashkortostan – 3,487 people.
38% of the dead residents of the republic went to the front as volunteers, i.e. they were not associated with the army at the time the invasion began. This is almost twice the average figure for Russia (22%). Another 14% were mobilized, and 18% were prisoners.
Only 19% of the identified dead Bashkirs lived in cities with a population of more than 100 thousand people. The majority went to war from rural areas. Only in the First Itkulovo with a population of 900 people 27 residents signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense. The youngest of them, Aisuvak Khasanov, was 23 years old. There is no information about him. The oldest – 60-year-old Rim Makhmutov – has been missing since August.
