Gazprom is making plans for exports to the far abroad in 2025 without taking into account transit through Ukraine to the EU, assuming that supplies to Europe and Turkey will drop to nearly 39 billion cubic meters, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters.
The five-year transit contract between Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz expires at the end of 2024. Closing the route will leave Gazprom with the only branch to Europe – through Turkey – and potential supplies in that direction will be halved to about 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year, equal to the capacity of one of the two strings of the Turkish Stream pipeline.
The source said that according to Gazprom’s forecasts, Russian gas exports to Europe and Turkey will drop to 39 bcm in 2025 from just under 49 bcm this year. This is the main scenario at the moment, he said.
