In Sumy, an Orphanage and a Rehabilitation Center Came Under Missile Attack

Two children’s institutions in the Ukrainian city of Sumy came under a missile attack by Russian troops on Sunday evening: an orphanage and a center for social and psychological rehabilitation of children. It is noted that they are located in the same building, which, at the same time, is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood of the city.

By that time there were no children in the institution. However, suffered 18 residents of the surrounding houses, including children of seven, nine and 13 years old, indicated in the message of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Sumy police said the Russian strike damaged an educational institution and at least five five-story buildings.

A few hours earlier, two industrial events were hit in Sumy. The local prosecutor’s office reported several wounded. The Russian Defense Ministry did not comment on the shelling of Sumy.

Ukraine’s Sumy Region borders Russia’s Kursk Region, the territory of which AFU units entered on August 6. One of the goals of this operation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, was to protect Sumy Region from shelling from the Russian side. However, after the Ukrainian army’s breakthrough into the Kursk region, the intensity of shelling increased. Sumy administration announced the mandatory evacuation of 23 settlements, where a total of about six thousand people live.
