Russia is withdrawing some of its troops from Ukraine in an attempt to organize a response to the AFU offensive in the Kursk region, the Wall Street Journal newspaper reported, citing US officials.
They said this is the first indication that the Ukrainian army’s military operation on Russian territory is forcing Moscow to withdraw units involved in a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. U.S. analysts have not yet determined how many troops are being moved to Russia and how that might affect the course of hostilities in Ukraine. But the transfer of Russian units confirms the validity of statements by Ukrainian spokesmen who say the operation in Russia has forced Moscow to pull troops out of the war zone in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s actions have created a “serious dilemma” for Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Joe Biden said Tuesday while speaking to reporters. Biden said members of his administration are in constant contact with the Ukrainians and he is regularly briefed on what is happening.
The Biden administration said it had not received any prior notice from the Ukrainian side of its intention to move the hostilities to Russian territory.
