Russia produces almost three times more artillery shells than the United States and Western countries can supply to Ukraine. This was reported by CNN channel with reference to estimates of the North Atlantic Alliance. According to the channel’s sources, Moscow produces 250 thousand artillery shells per month, Western countries can produce 100 thousand for Ukraine.
Artillery factories in Russia work around the clock and in three shifts, a NATO official told the channel. Moscow also buys shells from other countries, mainly DPRK and Iran. “Russia has put everything it has into play”, an intelligence official told the channel. – Their war machine is running at full speed”.
The Ukrainian army, according to several sources, is now experiencing a shell famine. Russia is reportedly using about 10,000 shells a day, Ukraine about 2,000. Western countries are looking for ways to buy the necessary shells on foreign markets and increase production.
In early March, Der Spiegel magazine wrote that Western countries may not have enough gunpowder to produce more shells. The piece noted that China, one of the largest producers of nitrocellulose, a key component of gunpowder, had stopped shipments to Europe. But, according to independent investigations, supplies continue to the Russian market.
