The Czech Republic has found almost all the necessary funds to purchase 800 thousand artillery shells for Ukraine, the ammunition can be transferred to the AFU within a few weeks, Bloomberg wrote on March 6, citing a source in the government of one of the EU countries (RBC).
The Czech Republic will act as an intermediary for the countries that intend to finance the deal. The EU defense and foreign ministers are expected to meet the other day to determine the details of the process.
Military experts estimate that Ukraine needs to receive at least 200,000 shells a month to continue fighting.
“There is positive progress regarding the Czech initiative”, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on March 6. At the same time, he emphasized that it would be possible to give a positive assessment of the initiative as a whole only when the shells are at the disposal of the Ukrainian army.
As UNIAN wrote, in February, Czech President Pavel announced that Prague had found where to buy 800,000 shells for Ukraine and expressed readiness to become an intermediary for the purchase of ammunition if money was allocated for this. The initiative was supported by Germany, France, Canada, the Netherlands and other European countries.
