Russia and Ukraine have for the first time carried out a humanitarian exchange of transfers and letters of relatives for prisoners of war. This was announced by Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova in her Telegram channel.
“Today for the first time by mutual agreement with the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights D.V. Lubinets on the Russian-Ukrainian border with the support and participation of the competent authorities, a humanitarian exchange of transfers and letters from relatives for Russian prisoners of war located on the territory of Ukraine and for Ukrainian servicemen detained and held on the territory of Russia has been carried out”, the Russian ombudsman wrote.
The Ukrainian parliamentary commissioner for human rights, Dmytro Lubinets, added that the humanitarian exchange took place on the Russian-Ukrainian border with the participation of representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Moskalkova also noted that thanks to the humanitarian agreements between the sides, four Ukrainian citizens returned to Ukraine from Russia, and also noted the departure of Ukrainian citizens for family reunification in Russia.
At the end of November, the ombudsmen of both countries visited 119 captured servicemen. Tatyana Moskalkova emphasized that the conditions of detention and medical care of the Ukrainian captives were in line with international norms. Dmytro Lubinets added that each prisoner of war is in satisfactory conditions, provided with hygiene products, has the right to work and the opportunity to go for walks.
