Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko has announced that he has submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister. The reason for this decision was disagreements over the issue of state funding of culture during the war.
In his opinion, spending budget funds on culture is no less important than on drones. “Culture is the shield of our identity and our borders”, Tkachenko wrote in Telegram.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the reduction in state funding for culture with Prime Minister Denys Shmygal and suggested that he fire Tkachenko and appoint another person to the post. “During such a war, the maximum attention of the state and, therefore, the state’s resources should go to defense. An obvious thing. Museums, cultural centers, symbols, serials – it’s all important, but now other priorities. Find extra-budgetary money. Not state money”, said Zelensky.
