Press Secretary of the “President” Putin Dmitry Peskov commented on the issue of the status of Wagner PMC at a briefing on July 14, TASS reported. According to Peskov, the issue of the status of private military companies will be considered, but for now Wagner PMC as a legal entity “does not exist and did not exist”.
As Kommersant wrote, the day before Vladimir Putin said in an interview with journalist Andrei Kolesnikov that Wagner PMC “does not exist” and the problem of the legal status of private military companies remains difficult. “We don’t have a law on private military organizations! It simply does not exist!” – he said.
At the same time, Putin did not explain how this relates to his words that the Russian budget financed the activities of Wagner PMC, apparently, there were some front men and “gray schemes” implemented by the Russian government.
Recall that on June 29, after the so-called rebellion and the “March of Justice”, Putin talked for almost three hours with Yevgeny Prigozhin and the commanders of Wagnerites in the Kremlin, which became known only on July 10, after a question posed by journalists to Peskov.
Note that in addition to Wagner PMC in Russia there are other private companies. For example, TOP10a.Ru lists ten PMCs. There is information that there are about thirty such organizations.
