Macron promised to provide Ukraine with longer-range missiles

French President Emmanuel Macron has promised to provide Ukraine with long-range Scalp cruise missiles “that will help Kyiv’s forces strike targets deep inside Russian territory,” the AFP news agency reported.

The Scalp missiles to be transferred to Ukraine are the French equivalent of the British Storm Shadow missile. Britain promised to deliver these missiles to Kyiv back in spring.

Storm Shadow is an aviation cruise missile developed jointly by Britain and France. Its range of fire is more than 250 kilometers.

The missiles supplied by Britain are air-launched only, while the French missiles can be launched from ships and submarines.

The Kremlin called Macron’s decision to transfer long-range missiles to Ukraine “fraught with consequences for the Ukrainian side” a mistake.
