Erdogan has agreed to Sweden’s entry into NATO

Recep Erdogan has agreed with Sweden’s accession to NATO. This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

According to him, at today’s meeting with him and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to submit the protocol on Sweden’s admission to NATO to parliament for ratification.

“Given the paramount importance of deterrence and defense in the Euro-Atlantic area, the Turkish side will submit the protocol on Sweden’s accession to the Grand National Assembly and will work closely with the assembly to ensure ratification”, Stoltenberg said in a statement.

The Turkish leader has been blocking Sweden’s accession to NATO for a year. Today, he unexpectedly said he was linking the issue of Sweden’s NATO membership to Turkey’s EU accession talks.
