The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy has announced a large-scale exercise involving central, regional and local services to prepare all services of the country in case of a terrorist attack at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
In the course of the exercises, “measures to overcome consequences in case of an explosion by the Russian military of one of the plant’s power units” will be practiced.
The relevant protocols for joint actions of special services have already been drawn up, the head of the ministry German Galushchenko specifies, and now they need to be practiced, which is what the exercises are for.
Galushchenko says the fifth power unit of the Zaporizhzhya NPP continues to work in the “hot shutdown” mode, because the Russian troops occupying the plant do not allow the reactor to be switched to a “cold shutdown”, which “significantly increases the risk of a terrorist threat to the nuclear facility”.
Energoatom President Petro Kotin specifies that the company is modeling various scenarios of events at ZNPP, their possible consequences, and options for overcoming them as soon as possible.
