There was an explosion and then a fire at the Tambov gunpowder plant in Kotovsk, Tambov region, Telegram channel Baza reported. The information was later confirmed by the region’s governor, Maksim Yegorov.
“The cause of the fire is human error. I unequivocally declare that it was not a terrorist attack. Unfortunately, there are human casualties”, Yegorov wrote.
According to RIA Novosti, four people died and 12 were injured.
A 1-square-meter fire that followed the explosion was extinguished. The fire was reported to the emergency services at 14:10. Workers at the plant and residents of neighboring communities were not threatened, the governor of the Tambov region assured.
