The United Nations Development Program is accumulating one billion dollars for Ukraine’s reconstruction, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said. He met with program director Achim Steiner in Kyiv on Saturday.
Shmygal specified that the meeting focused on Ukraine’s needs for rapid reconstruction, demining and humanitarian aid. The issues of supporting small and medium businessmen who have lost their business as a result of the war and want to start it anew were touched upon. The UN Development Program is preparing initiatives for training and retraining of businessmen, development of potential export enterprises. Also, the Development Program will support restoration of energy infrastructure.
According to calculations by the Kyiv School of Economics, Ukraine’s total damage during the first year of the full-scale war is estimated at $144 billion. After the disaster at the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant on June 6, the damage was more than $1.5 billion.
