An explosion occurred at a missile and explosives factory in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
The country’s Defense Ministry tweeted that five workers were killed. Local media also reported “multiple casualties”. Several of the injured were taken to hospitals, with some of them assessed to be in serious condition. Relatives of the workers come to the plant.
According to the Turkish newspaper Ihlas, the explosion occurred in a production hall. A Haber reports that the sound of the explosion was heard in the surrounding communities.
After the explosion a fire broke out and a column of smoke rose over the plant. At the moment, the fire was localized.
Local authorities have not yet voiced information about the cause of the explosion. A judicial and administrative investigation into the incident has been initiated.
