On Tuesday night, the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant on the Dnipro River was broken. The waters of the Kakhovka reservoir poured downstream. Russia and Ukraine blame each other for blowing up the dam. According to some media reports, it might not be able to withstand the head of water due to previous damage.
Ukrainian authorities have already announced the evacuation of residents of settlements downstream of the Dnipro River, including Kherson. The mayor of Russian-occupied Novay Kakhovka, Volodymyr Leontiev, stated that there was no need to evacuate civilians there yet.
