Ukraine has officially requested Taurus cruise missiles with a range of up to 500 km from Germany. President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed their delivery with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in early May in Berlin. An official request was later sent, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing sources.
A spokesman for the German chancellor would not comment on this information, but the Defense Ministry confirmed Kyiv’s request without specifying the number of missiles requested, the article said.
As the paper notes, the request probably confused Berlin. The missiles may be compatible with the F-16s, which the West also intends to provide to Ukraine.
