Igor EIDMAN. Germany will be even more pro-Ukrainian

Unlike in the United States, sociologists in Germany do not eat their bread in vain. There were no surprises in the elections. The results were even slightly better than most predictions. The bloc of Putin’s Sahra Wagenknecht did not pass. The votes of the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats in the Bundestag are enough to form a governing coalition. Merz will be chancellor, Pistorius will probably be in government too. The high result of the AfD is certainly unpleasant, but not disastrous. This party is isolated, no one will enter a coalition with it (even the equally pro-Putin Sahra refuses). And due to the specifics of the German political system (as well as any other party) it has no chance to win and form a government alone. So the AfD is doomed to be a whistle to drain the steam of right-wing discontent (for the left such a role is performed by Linke).

All in all it’s not bad. Germany will have a significantly more pro-Ukrainian and anti-Putin government led by Merz and Pistorius.
