An ugly, ugly, perverted year. A year of rampant Putin’s perverts, treasury thieves and their lackeys. The year of Russia’s complete immersion in the swamp of lies and pretense. A year of brazen Muslim radicals. Everything seems hopeless.
But – and this is a huge “but” – I receive New Year’s greetings from friends, colleagues and acquaintances who have kept their decency (according to Fazil Iskander – without participating in meanness). The most frequent wording is “we understand”.
“In our institute everyone thinks adequately, there are no contradictions and conflicts on this topic, but they prefer not to talk loudly”. “The students I teach all understand everything properly”.
And a good wish is to save face in the new year, despite the “difficult situation.” Save face, friends. Don’t betray yourselves or your loved ones. Thank you.
